INTRODUCTION
As thesis project I did a book about a topic that is very relevant for designers. When ever we communi-cate we use signs to express, what we want. So, a deeper knowlage of the meaning and appearing of signs is essential for the work of a designer. There are still a lot of books existing about design, or about the general theory of signs – but there is none of them, which builds a bridge between the complex theory and the usability for designs. And this is exactly the matter and also the idea why I did this book.

CONCEPT
The book is didactically divided into three parts. The first one is about the theory as the base of understanding – that I tried to keep as simple as possible. The second part is showing ways, how a designer can apply those theoretical insights in his daily work. The third part offers exercises to all chapters of the book, to deepen the new knowledge.
